The gloomy weather in Belgium is making me want to travel even more. I’ve always loved to travel. This year I have made a promise to myself that I would travel outside of europe at least once a year. I have a few things I always do or use to travel as cheap as possible. Here are few of them.
Booking your apartment or hotel
Airbnb offers plenty of rooms, apartments, houses etc. for a really good price. I would recommend looking for apartments where the owner doesn’t ask for a deposit. Alot of owners don’t charge extra for large groups. This is an amazing option for everyone.
You book your stay at a 4* hotel for a very affordable price. This is your chance to stay at a luxurious hotel without breaking the bank.
This site does not only offer cheap stays at amazing hotels but their deals also include transportation from boat rides to bus rides and flights.
If you’re lucky enough to have a friend in the city your travelling to, you could stay with your friend.
You can always find good deals when you book really early or if you travel during the low season.
Try and eat in as much as you can or look for great deals. Most of the time dinner is more expensive than lunch. So you might want to go to a restaurant for lunch, pick from the menu of the day (which is much cheaper than à la carte) and have dinner at home. If you’re trying to save money or simply trying to save some coins then you shouldn’t go out to eat for every meal of the day.
Always check out local sites for restaurants and bars. They are usually ranked by the price of their food and drinks. Which makes it easier for you to make a list of the places you want to eat. Don’t forget to look at the reviews!
Don’t forget that Groupon is worldwide and also has a bunch of good deals for food and activities.
Time out is one of the best for that in my opinion. They tell you were the hotspots are, when you can do activities for free or for cheaper prices, where you can find affordable great restaurants..
Go look on the local websites. They mention every event there is at the time of your stay. You can find out which activities are the cheapest or which ones are free.
Time out is a great one for that as well.
Buying travel currency
DO NOT buy your travel currency at the airport. You will get ripped off!
Don’t withdraw money from the ATM to often when you’re abroad. You’re most likely to get a poor exchange rate and get charged a fee for every withdrawal. You can try and find an ATM where they don’t charge you for withdrawing money. If you do find one, try ro withdraw a large sum at one time because the fee stays the same for any amount of money you withdraw.
If you’re european and travelling in europe I suggest that you withdraw money in your country’s currency and look for the best currency exchange office so you’ll get what your money is worth.
