The Perfect Silk Press On Natural Hair | @FaceOfLife

April 3, 2016

As a naturalista in Belgium I struggle with finding a hairdresser that specializes in natural hair. I’ve been natural for nearly three years and I’ve never had my hair cut, trimmed or styled by a professional. So you could only imagine how uneven my hair was. Besides wanting to get my hair trimmed I’ve always want to get my hair pressed.

A silk press is a modern day press and curl that gives natural hair the look like it has been relaxed aka a very silky straight finish. A ceramic flat iron is used for this instead of a hot comb. This lasts for two to three weeks.

One day I was on Instagram and I bumped into a video of a silk press done by @FaceOfLife . I was so impressed and immediately followed her, I was in awe of her work. She posted that she was accepting new clients and since I was already going to London for Easter Weekend I jumped at the opportunity and booked an appointment.

To cleanse and condition my hair she used a shampoo and conditioner from her own brand which is coming out soon. These products felt so good on my scalp, I know that one of the ingredients is tea tree. They smell so good too!

She applied a serum which is also a heat protectant and then she proceeded with the blow out. After that she trimmed and flat ironed my hair. My hair was so shiny, bouncy, full, silky. I could not stop thanking her for the amazing job she did on my hair. (1).gif

Life Kaleng is such a nice, fun and beautiful person. I had a blast with her. She is really amazing at what she does, makes you really comfortable and guys she is not scissor happy at all. She wants to keep as much length as possible and still achieve beautiful, healthy, voluminous hair.

The same way that men trust their barber is the same way that I, Valencia, trust my hairdresser aka the Silk Press Queen, Life Kaleng.

Check her out on Instagram – @FaceOfLife_  or go to for bookings and products.
