I am a real foodie at heart so when I travel I automatically think about all the different types of food I’ll get to try. At the end of July I went to Madrid (Spain) with two of my friends. We stayed in Lavapiés, a multicultural neighborhood in the city of Madrid.
I relate Spain to paella, sangría, tapas, .. so it was only fair to let the foodie in me spoil my tastebuds. Here are a few places I think you should visit if you’re planning on visiting Madrid.
Mercado de San Miguel
This is my favorite! We accidentally discovered this beauty when we decided to walk around before our bustour. It’s located in the center of madrid within walking distance of Plaza Mayor. The Mercado de San Miguel is a gourmet tapas market with over 30 different vendors. They offer a wide variety of tapas such as empanadas, ham, olives, lobster.. You can have beer, champagne, wine, cocktails and also sweets such as macaroons, frozen yoghurt. You can also buy your typical fruits and veggies. The nice thing about this market is that it has sprinklers on the roof to keep you cool during those hot summer days so you can comfortably enjoy your time there.
Although it’s a tapas bar I would not recommend it for their tapas. The fried calamari were delicious, the rest of the food was not that great. What really amazed me was the taste of their sangría. It was soo delicious and really affordable. This is the place to be if you’re looking for a delicious glass of sangría. You can find Tapa Tapa right across the metro station Gran Vía.
Steak n Shake
I know, I know this has nothing to do with spanish food, blame it on my best friend. She kept raving about this place since she you used to go there when she lived in Cannes. So we decided to give it a try. I ordered a signature steak burger with bacon and cheese fries. They have the best milkshakes I have ever tasted in my life! Sheesh!
Which places do you recommend in your city?
